WITH SEVERE HAZE CONDITIONS affecting many parts of Malaysia, schools around several states had to shut down twice this month as air quality plummeted in Negeri Sembilan, Selangor and Kuala Lumpur.
In this regard, Cempaka Schools activated its innovative Cempaka@Home program where classes continue as scheduled but delivered online through its award-winning virtual learning environment- Schoology. Students retain the same time-table at home as if at school and as they move from one lesson period to another, they will need to log into the corresponding course on Schoology. Here they shall receive instructions and content from their respective subject teachers.
‘My students find the lessons exciting and different. They appreciate the variety,’ shares Cempaka International School Damansara Heights English Literature teacher Jasmine Delaviz.
As launched recently, the BigBlueButton app serves as concurrent system where students will be able to interact in real-time with their teacher. Attendance are checked and recorded through participation in class discussion groups.
Cempaka@Home is normally executed in the event that the school is closed due to unforeseen circumstances, e.g. adverse weather conditions.
Cempaka Cheras teacher Darlene D’Cruz adds, ‘Cempaka@Home is ideal and effective. My students adapt well and just like a regular classroom session, they must be well-prepared for the lessons.’ Cempaka@Home was activated across all the three campuses including the ladies’ boarding school Cempaka International Ladies’ College in Bandar Enstek.
As a reminder: here’s what you can do to protect yourself during haze.
