Just in time for the arrival of spring in France, Cempaka International Schools Damansara Heights and Cheras campus celebrated French culture and language at the North Hall of Cempaka International School Cheras/Cempaka Cheras campus last 17 June 2015.
Led by YBhg. Dato’ Freida Pilus, Founder and Mentor of Cempaka Schools Malaysia, the schools welcomed Madame Pauline Vey (Linguistic Attaché, Embassy of France), Ms. Morgane Buffin (Cooperation and Cultural Service Officer, Embassy of France), Mr. Muhammad Muhainin (Assistant Secretary of Europe Divisions, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Malaysia), and Ms Nadège Martra (cofounder and executive director of SJL French, Kuala Lumpur). Members of the academe were also in attendance, Mrs Mélodie Barthoux (Pedagogical Coordinator for the Alliance Francaise de Kuala Lumpur), Mrs Elizabeth Brio (Lecturer of French Language in the UM University) and Mrs Marini (Malaysian Director of MFUC: Malaysia-France University Centre).
The guests were entertained by a variety of performances from staging a short play ‘Les Quatre Amis’ to reading of extracts from beloved classic ‘Le Petit Prince’ by Saint Exupery, from poetry recitation of works of famous French poets Baudelaire, Ronsard and Rimbaud to a presentation of French painters Monet and Gauguin. The winners (Wong Li Sean, Nazeera) of a t-shirt design competition were also given awards and recognition. Cempakans from CIS Damansara Heights participated in a Design a Tee-Shirt contest ‘What is your idea of France or the French Language’.
The Special French Assembly was capped by a heartfelt choral number ‘Vois Sur ton Chemin’, a 2004 Academy Award for Best Original Song nominee, sung by students from the Cempaka International Ladies’ College as well as a reinterpretation of the French traditional dance, the cancan.
