Cempaka Performing Arts Company (CPAC) came out on top on this year’s Junior Cammies for the Cempaka Schools Box Office Production 2015 Annie, The Musical. CPAC was nominated and won all the four awards:  Best Production Design (Set, Lights, Sound/Music & Costume) and Best Ensemble (second year in a row) while Charmaine Koh Sher Min, who played the lead role, took the Best Principal Role. In the meantime, Scott McQuaid took the award for Best Direction.

Giving Back to Humanity – India Community Trip 2015

Last 6th-11th December 2015, 23 Cempaka International School students along with 4 teachers embarked on an educational and charity trip to Mumbai, India as part of a voluntary service program organised by the Cempaka International School’s International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP). The program was part of the Community, Action and Service (CAS) component of the course which requires students to fulfil 30 hours of community service work.

According to Nicholas Tan Hao Yu (Junior 1 Cempaka, Class of 2017), the students visited underprivileged areas in Mumbai and participated in charity events where they donated food and other basic necessities to various organisations in the city. “In preparation of this, the IBDP students have raised funds by selling food at their booth for the past 2 months, and from the money collected have proceeded to buy the items to be donated, which they have boxed to be given to the less fortunate on their visit.”

Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) awards top Cempaka students

Students from Cempaka International School Cheras and Cempaka International Ladies’ College (CILC) were recently honored for their stellar performance during the IGCSE May/June 2015 examinations session.

The following students received the ‘Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards’ and were presented certificates last 26 November 2015 by  YBhg. Senator Tuan Chong Sin Woon, Deputy Minister, Ministry Of Education and Dr. Ben Schmidt, Regional Director, Southeast Asia and Pacific, Cambridge International Examinations:

  1. Ng Kah Yan – Mathematics (Top in World) and Mandarin ( Top in World)
  2. Elyssa Har Sir Chi – Mandarin (Top in World)
  3. Low Chuen Leik – First Language English ( Top in Malaysia ) (Chuen Leik received the same award for Additional Maths last year)
  4. Kimberly Chan Chwee Li – Combined Science (Top in Malaysia)
  5. Lee Jia Wen CILC – Food and Nutrition (High Achievement Award)

Cempaka Schools Malaysia shines again in 2015 World Education Games

DEFENDING WORLD CHAMPIONS Cempaka Schools Malaysia participated again in this years highly exciting World Education Games 2015.  The three-day marathon saw Cempaka students from all the three campuses compete with students from around the world during the World Literacy Day, World Mathematics Day and World Science Day.

As of this writing, there are two Cempaka students who were confirmed as overall topnotchers in their respective categories: Leong Zhi Yen (K Level) of Cempaka Cheras and Sydny Lum Shen (Year 6) of Cempaka International School Damansara Heights. Along with a parent, they will be flown on all-expense paid trip to Sydney, Australia to receive their prizes.

The World Education Games is the flagship educational competition event conducted by 3PLearning, United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and Microsoft . It is now the largest event of its kind in the world. This year, there’s over 6 million students registered in over 200 countries and territories.

Yokohama Students Wrap Up Malaysia Visit with Cultural Performances at CILC

The visiting students from Hakuho Girls School (Yokohama, JAPAN) ended their month-long visit in Malaysia through an inspiring Malaysia-Japan friendship themed assembly featuring traditional dances, songs and fashion at the Auditorium of Cempaka International Ladies’ College in Bandar Enstek, Nilai, Negeri Sembilan.

The girls attended lessons and other events at the beautiful CILC campus where they tried their hands on at cooking traditional Malaysian dishes at its Masterchef kitchen and had sport climbing sessions at CILC’s indoor climbing wall. ‘We had no idea what to expect, but we quickly realized that Cempakans are very friendly and kind,…we soon felt encouraged and (be) part of the family,’ says Nana Matsuda.

Cempaka@Home Activated During Severe Haze

WITH SEVERE HAZE CONDITIONS affecting many parts of Malaysia, schools around several states had to shut down twice this month as air quality plummeted in Negeri Sembilan, Selangor and Kuala Lumpur.

In this regard, Cempaka Schools activated its innovative Cempaka@Home program where classes continue as scheduled but delivered online through its award-winning virtual learning environment- Schoology. Students retain the same time-table at home as if at school and as they move from one lesson period to another, they will need to log into the corresponding course on Schoology. Here they shall receive instructions and content from their respective subject teachers.

‘My students find the lessons exciting and different. They appreciate the variety,’ shares Cempaka International School Damansara Heights English Literature teacher Jasmine Delaviz.

Guests from the French Embassy, Wisma Putra and the academe enjoy the shows at the Special French Assembly.

Just in time for the arrival of spring in France, Cempaka International Schools Damansara Heights and Cheras campus celebrated French culture and language at the North Hall of Cempaka International School Cheras/Cempaka Cheras campus last 17 June 2015.

Led by YBhg. Dato’ Freida Pilus, Founder and Mentor of Cempaka Schools Malaysia, the schools welcomed Madame Pauline Vey (Linguistic Attaché, Embassy of France), Ms. Morgane Buffin (Cooperation and Cultural Service Officer, Embassy of France), Mr. Muhammad Muhainin (Assistant Secretary of Europe Divisions, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Malaysia), and Ms Nadège Martra (cofounder and executive director of SJL French, Kuala Lumpur). Members of the academe were also in attendance, Mrs Mélodie Barthoux (Pedagogical Coordinator for the Alliance Francaise de Kuala Lumpur), Mrs Elizabeth Brio (Lecturer of French Language in the UM University) and Mrs Marini (Malaysian Director of MFUC: Malaysia-France University Centre).

CEMPAKA SCHOOLS MALAYSIA GOLFERS CONTINUE TO PERFORM STRONGLY IN THE PAST YEAR AS PARGOLF, MALAYSIA GOLF ASSOCIATION (MGA) NAME CEMPAKA INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL DAMANSARA HEIGHTS STUDENT NATASHA ANDREA OON AS ‘THE BEST JUNIOR GOLFER OF THE YEAR – FEMALE 2014′ FOR HER HARD WORK AND COMMITMENT TO THE SPORT.

The gala took place at the Putrajaya Marriott Hotel last 24 April 2014 and was graced by Malaysia’s Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Dato’ Haji Muhyiddin Yassin as the guest of honour. Inaugurated in 2010, the Malaysia Golf Award, formally known as The ParGolf Award, has a total of 22 award categories, comprising of 11 voted awards and 11 special awards. The voted award winners were selected by a 50 strong panel of golf industries personalities appointed by ParGolf, MGA combined with an online poll for the selected categories.

Natasha also won the Future Champion Junior Golf in San Diego last July 2014 as well the Junior Honda Classic in Orlando, Florida in January 2015.
