Talk: Healthy Habits for the Younger Generation: Hand Hygiene at Cempaka International School Cheras/Cempaka Cheras

Cempaka International School Cheras students Esther Liew, Elyssa Hah, Ezra Ng & Kirttna Solai organised a talk on hand hygiene as part of their IGCSE Global Perspectives Group Assignment. The talk entitled “Healthy Habits for the Younger Generation: Hand Hygiene” was delivered by Dr. Meenakshi Valravan, a Consultant Paediatrician at the KPJ Kajang Specialist Hospital.

The informative session was held on the 28th of March 2016 from 9:30 am to 10:30 am in the North Hall and was attended by Cempaka Cheras Primary students and teachers.  According to Esther Liew, the topic aimed to raise awareness on common diseases as well as to teach the children on the simple healthy habits. Assisted by nurses, the children were then formed into groups where they were each taught how to properly wash their hands.

Cempaka International School Damansara Heights Hosts Bond University Talk on Law, Ethics

Cempaka International School Damansara Heights recently hosted a talk by Executive Dean, Professor Nick James of Faculty of Law of Bond University Australia at its Dato’ Pilus Hall last 2 March 2016. The talk entitled “Law and Ethics: Making the Right Choice” delved around the nature of moral and legal rules and hoped to encourage critical and analytical thinking amongst the students.

Professor James elucidated in his lecture, the concepts on legal rules and ethical rules and explored what it meant to be something ‘legal’ or ‘illegal’ and what it meant to be something ‘ethical’ and ‘unethical.’ The students also had to a chance to learn the various sources of these legal and ethical rules.

The talk was attended not only by the students of Cempaka International School Damansara Heights but also by students from the Cempaka International School Cheras/Cempaka Cheras campus. It is part of a series of Career Talks being held in the various campuses of Cempaka Schools Malaysia. Cempaka Schools Malaysia is a group of premier private and international schools in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and Negeri Sembilan.

Albanian Delegation Visits Cempaka Schools for Education Collaboration

The mayor of the City of Kamza, Albania Mr. Xhelal Mziu and his entourage paid a visit to Cempaka International School Cheras/Cempaka Cheras, Malaysia to discuss spheres of collaboration in education especially in the area of information technology last 26 February 2016.

Mr. Mziu eagerly presented the achievements of the city of Kamza where under his watch was cited at the European Awards for Best Practices in 2014 in Brussels, Belgium. This was followed through with an EduGIFT and Schoology presentation and a light lunch. The delegation was also given a private tour of Cempaka International Ladies’ College – Cempaka Group of Schools’ premier boarding school for girls.

Mr. Mziu was joined by Miss Valentina Baja, Director of of Coordination and Development Directory, Miss Ornela Luku, Specialist of Coordination and Development Directory as well as by his wife Mrs. Vjollca Mziu. The visit ended with an invitation from the honourable mayor to the officials of Cempaka Schools to visit the city of Kamza.

Dutch Ambassador Cycles with Cempaka EcoRide

Together with the Embassy of the Kingdom of The Netherlands to Malaysia and EcoWorld, Cempaka Cycle held a major cycling event dubbed as EcoRide last 12 December 2015 at the EcoMajestic in Seminyih, Selangor, Malaysia.

His Excellency, Ambassador Harry Molenaar officiated the event which drew around 250 cyclists from Cempaka International School Damansara Heights, Cempaka International School Cheras/Cempaka Cheras and Cempaka International Ladies’ College. Cycling is a ubiquitous form of transport in The Netherlands, with about a third of the population using bicycles as their transport of choice. The cities of Amsterdam, Zwolle and Groningen probably have the highest modal shares in the world.

Aside from cycling, Cempaka EcoRide was also a fair of sorts with food (food trucks, popcorn, cotton candy, light refreshments), games (gladiator jousting, bull rides) and a photo booth.

Currently, cycling is part of the extra-curricular activity for students of Cempaka Schools and will soon to be included in the Sports For All program across all the campuses. Cempaka Cycle hopes to promote safe cycling in Malaysia as well as better health and cleaner environment.

Students from Cempaka International School Cheras and Cempaka International Ladies’ College (CILC) were recently honored for their stellar performance during the IGCSE May/June 2015 examinations session.

The following students received the ‘Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards’ and were presented certificates last 26 November 2015 by  YBhg. Senator Tuan Chong Sin Woon, Deputy Minister, Ministry Of Education and Dr. Ben Schmidt, Regional Director, Southeast Asia and Pacific, Cambridge International Examinations:

  1. Ng Kah Yan – Mathematics (Top in World) and Mandarin ( Top in World)
  2. Elyssa Har Sir Chi – Mandarin (Top in World)
  3. Low Chuen Leik – First Language English ( Top in Malaysia ) (Chuen Leik received the same award for Additional Maths last year)

Guests from the French Embassy, Wisma Putra and the academe enjoy the shows at the Special French Assembly.

Just in time for the arrival of spring in France, Cempaka International Schools Damansara Heights and Cheras campus celebrated French culture and language at the North Hall of Cempaka International School Cheras/Cempaka Cheras campus last 17 June 2015.

Led by YBhg. Dato’ Freida Pilus, Founder and Mentor of Cempaka Schools Malaysia, the schools welcomed Madame Pauline Vey (Linguistic Attaché, Embassy of France), Ms. Morgane Buffin (Cooperation and Cultural Service Officer, Embassy of France), Mr. Muhammad Muhainin (Assistant Secretary of Europe Divisions, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Malaysia), and Ms Nadège Martra (cofounder and executive director of SJL French, Kuala Lumpur). Members of the academe were also in attendance, Mrs Mélodie Barthoux (Pedagogical Coordinator for the Alliance Francaise de Kuala Lumpur), Mrs Elizabeth Brio (Lecturer of French Language in the UM University) and Mrs Marini (Malaysian Director of MFUC: Malaysia-France University Centre).

Cempaka’s ‘The Wedding Singer’ wins at Junior Cammies 2015

THE TEAM OF ANDREW CHAN, SCOTT MCQUAID, TAN PEIK YI, ANN SALINA PETER, GLORIA PATIE, ABDUL MUHAIMIN, CIK NORASHIKIN AHMAD, WAN ZAKARIA, TAN ENG HENG, TERENCE CHONG, TENGKU DAYANG ADEIRA HAZIRAH and the entire Wedding Singer Company took the Junior Cammies’ Best Ensemble trophy during its debut at the 12th BOH Cameronian Arts Awards 2015 held last 15th of April 2015 at Makespace, Kuala Lumpur.

In 2014, Cempaka Schools chose Matthew Sklar’s Tony Award winning adaptation of the 1998 film ‘The Wedding Singer’, to add to the ongoing yearly tradition of world-class musical productions by the school. Directed by Scott McQuaid, the musical is set in 1985 and is about a love story between a rock star wannabe played by Jes Ismael Izaidin Jes Izman and a young waitress played by Cempaka newcomer Sabrina Chiew Wen Cheen.
