“Somebody sedate me!” Dr. Christina Yang, a Korean-American surgical intern in Seattle Grace Hospital, screams from the magical box that is my television. Her face is streaked with tears and sweat, her post-miscarriage hormones are raging and her hair is inexplicably messy. Dr. Yang is not usually like this; she is driven, detached, sarcastic, brilliant, and perfectly rational. She is also one of the five surgical interns at the Seattle Grace Hospital around whom the storyline of the hit television series ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ revolves; Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo), Isobel ‘Izzie’ Stevens (Katherine Heigl), Christina Yang (Sandra Oh), George O’Malley (T.R Knight) and Alex Karev (Justin Chambers).

‘Grey’s Anatomy’ has hit the ground running, gaining a wide variety of fans with its twist on the age-old idea of a series based on doctors working in a hospital. Unlike overtly tragic soap operas and typical medical dramas, ‘Grey’s’ seems to be able to balance out its slightly dramatic plotline with realism, sarcasm, humour, likable characters and exceptionally interesting medical cases.

One starts out watching it because of its interesting facts and cases, but one keeps watching it because of its characters and their individual in-depth storylines. If you don’t like the five interns, you will at least find yourself siding with the residents and attendants; Miranda Bailey, Richard Webber, Preston Burke, Derek Shepherd, Addison Montgomery, Mark Sloan and Calleigh Torres.

The name ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ is a play on the title of the surgical interns’ handbook, ‘Gray’s Anatomy’. The cast does not consist of many initially well-known actors and actresses; nevertheless, their work is amazing, and they are able to make you laugh and cry at all the right times.

The show boasts a wonderful soundtrack, and both the series and the soundtrack have won quite a few awards, including the Golden Globe Awards. ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ is one of the best and most popular shows on television, and that is no surprise, really. Here’s the real question: Is ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ worth the time?

The answer would be yes. ‘Grey’s’ is most definitely worth the time. Seriously.
