Most of you have probably read, seen or heard of the extreme floods that have been ravaging the state of Johor and causing unspeakable damage and inconvenience to those unfortunate enough to be living in the middle of the turmoil.
Fear not, however, as we decided to help them out. Cempakans from both the Damansara and Cheras campuses pooled their resources, stayed back after school and even gave up their Saturday mornings to collect toiletries, medical supplies and clothing for the victims (and we wrapped them up in pretty paper, too). Our hard work over the course of one week managed to procure sixty boxes of supplies, which we transported to the Malaysian Red Cross Society in Jalan Nipah on the 25th of January.
“We need the public’s help for the vulnerable, especially after these floods,” a representative of the Red Cross Society remarked. Incidentally, the Malaysian Red Cross Society has thus far collected over five million tones of donations–hopefully our sixty boxes will pump the numbers up a little more.
PAPS president Lai Pik Kaye was quite impressed with the volume of donations we received. “At least people are showing that they care,” she said.
At least indeed. |
