Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End
By DON EVANA EZRIEN, Form 5 Science 1

Pirates of the Caribbean is just one of many mega blockbuster hits that have flooded cinemas all around the globe. The third installment of the electrifying trilogy is by far the most successful and the most action-packed (not to mention the longest!) episode hitherto. The movie continues where the previous episode left off. Gorgeous eye-candy, Orlando Bloom, and the ever-stunning Keira Knightley reprised their roles as William Turner and Elizabeth Swann respectively. The duo teamed up with Captain Barbossa, the character we all love to hate and hate to love portrayed by actor Geoffrey Rush.

Along with their foolhardy but loyal gang of pirates, the trio traveled to Singapore to seek a special map owned by one of the notorious pirate lords, Sao Feng. This was the beginning of their desperate quest to free the legendary and illustrious Captain Jack Sparrow (we can’t help but love him!) from his mind-bending trap in Davy Jones’ locker. This expedition was further hindered by the infamous ghost ship, The Flying Dutchman and Davy Jones under the control of the East India Trading Company, wreaking havoc across the Seven Seas.

Navigating through treachery, betrayal and wild waters, they forged their way from exotic Singapore to a place beyond the very ends of the earth. In this chapter, each character had their own separate desire and intention. Therefore, each must ultimately choose a side in a final, titanic battle – as not only their lives and fortunes, but the entire future of the freedom-loving Pirate way, hangs in the balance.

The first five minutes prove that this movie is not catered for the little ones. If you loved the first two movies, you will definitely enjoy this one. Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End eschews the problems that plagued Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest and continues to deliver the swashbuckling action and comedy that won over fans and doubters alike when Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl burst on the scene a few years ago.

Director Gore Verbinski wonderfully mixes comedy, action and drama, and gives each character something special to do. If you like Orlando Bloom, Will Turner has some special moments. If you love Johnny Depp, he has even more special moments to make the audience swoon for the lovable rogue (hey, it’s Johnny Depp). Even the monkey has a few chances to steal the spotlight (and prove he is the true star of the movie). It’s a film that appeals to everyone in a way that fits within the story, even if Verbinski allows the tone to get a bit too campy in spots. However, he more than makes up for it in the 30-45 minute long climactic battle scene that combines special effects, solid acting and some laughs to make this movie one of the best of the summer.

Well, if you have not seen this movie, what are you waiting for? Leave a weekend free and make your way to the nearest cinema and watch this stellar film! The star-studded cast and fascinating plot will definitely be worth every dime and piece of popcorn.
