“Thanks for the memories, even though they weren’t so great…” the voice sings into my ear through my headphones. Okay, I realize this is not the spelling of the title as written by Fall Out Boy, but I am taking into account the spellchecker here. Bear with me. So, back to the point, that is, the catchy line of the song. It leads me to become all nostalgic and think back on days past.
Memories are really nothing, literally. They are merely snatches of what you can remember from time that has come and gone. Does that not sound sad? The odd part is that some memories always stay with you and perhaps make you smile. There are several people who actually firmly believe it is memories that keep them going on and help them gain inspiration. For instance, there are individuals who grieve the loss of loved ones but stay strong and live their lives because of the memories they have of whoever it is that has passed on.
Of course, with the good usually comes the bad. There normally are memories, those cringe-inducing and blush-worthy ones that we still recall till today. Again, the weird part is that when we think back on the incident that occurred, we usually laugh and smile. I still wince-albeit laughingly-at one such incident that involved a dropped shoe, a mortified me hopping all the way to class before losing my balance and landing the socked foot in a puddle of rainwater and the disbelieving stare from a prefect on duty. One day, I will look back on this and be at ease. At least, I think I will.
In a nutshell, memories are honestly something to look back on and recall with happiness. I know that is completely corny but there is more than a grain of truth in it. Sometimes, it is fun to rehash incidents that happened. Is it not? I think so.
Enough of sentimentality for today! Let me end on this note before I get accused of being a softie at heart. |
