Return Home
My Best Friend
By SELENA THIAN, Standard 6 Terra

My phone rang. I was wondering who would be calling so late. To my surprise, it was my best friend, Cassandra. She told me that she was returning from her trip. I was confused. She was supposed to be at Pulau Tioman for a holiday and she planned on coming back next week. I immediately demanded for the reason, wondering whether anything had happened. She then replied softly, “I was stung by a jellyfish. The doctor suggested that I should go home tomorrow to rest.” My heart sank. I was worried for her.

I tried to go back to sleep but I could not keep my mind off Cassandra. Suddenly, I had a flash back. I recalled the first day I joined the school. As I had always been in a government school, I always had the impression that it would be harder to make friends in a private school and things would be some how different from my previous school. To my surprise, the teachers were very kind and friendly towards me. The students on the other hand were not as friendly. I felt quite lonely. One day during our normal lunchtime, Cassandra joined me for lunch. That was how it all began. We had been best friends since then.

Drowned in deep thoughts, I did not realise it was already morning. It was time to go to school. I argued with my mum because I thought of going straight to Cassandra’s house to check on her but mum did not allow me to. After school, I grabbed the basket of fruits my mum had bought for Cassandra and rushed to her house immediately.

Cassandra was very happy to see me, and she told me that the doctor had advised her to stay home for two weeks. I promised that I would visit her everyday after school and fill her in on the latest happenings at school. When she had fully recovered and started attending school once again, my friends and I threw a party for her.

Cassandra is no doubt a good friend and I am lucky to have her as my friend. I treasure our friendship very much. I would always be by her side and I know she would to.
