Well with the Euro 2008 just finished and the English Premier League (EPL) (maybe only football fans knows this) transfers going on, I’m going to just write an article for all the football fans about some interesting transfer rumours and expectations for 2008/2009 season. Naturally the most interesting news will be among the ‘Big Fours’ namely Manchester United (MU), Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal and not ‘wannabe’ clubs like Tottenham or Manchester City.
First of all, let’s start with Manchester United. Now every MU fan would surely know that the hottest thing going around in that club is definitely the Cristiano Ronaldo transfer rumour. Although a Liverpool fan myself, I have to admit that he is one of the best players I have seen and of course this leads to Real Madrid. Cristiano Ronaldo has shown interest in the club and that whopping 180 thousand Pounds they are willing to pay a week. Now the only problem standing in his way is old Sir Alex Ferguson, who is a real hypocrite. He claims that Real Madrid plays dirty but he himself has been doing that for the past 20 years and I feel that is unfair for him to make false claims such as that. It has not been confirmed but Ronaldo's destination will definitely be settled in the upcoming week when the transfer market opens and all. Personally I do not care where he goes, but if he leaves Manchester United; their team would be weakened for sure.
As for Chelsea, the Blues are no better off. Everyone wants to leave the club and it has been reported that Scolari's may be taking over as manager. If you ask me he’s not the brightest manager but the transfer money he is getting is no joke, which is around 200 million. The Blues will practically become a new club. Moreover, new players need time to settle and form cohesion with teammates. Chelsea did not put up much of a fight this season and they had to settle for a third placing in the EPL. Currently they are linked with many players but not many players are interested in the club. There is Deco on the list though who by far seems like the only player interested in the club. But with the likes of Drogba, Lampard and Carvalho going out, I certainly do not see them as a tough nor fierce competitor in the upcoming season.
Arsenal is another club who are on the verge of losing most of their main players. For example, Flamini left on a free transfer to AC Milan. That is a huge blow to Arsenal due to the fact that there was no transfer money involved and Flamini is one of Arsenal's best players. Adebayor is another one who would opt out but luckily for Arsene Wenger, he has got a contract with Arsenal. Besides that, Hleb has been linked to Barcelona. Van Persie on the other hand wants to see how many more of his teammates are willing to stay. Now Wenger would positively be furious and what's more, his squad is not the biggest among the top four and his best players want to leave. But his eye for young talents has so far landed him a Samir Nasri from Marseille and Aaron Ramsey. Not bad too bad but let's see them in action first! After all ‘we should never judge a book by its cover’.
And out of the other three, Liverpool looks like the most settled club. None of their best players are leaving and the ones going out the door are the deadwoods Rafa wants to get rid of. This is another club probably linked with various players but the truth is uncertain. But one thing is for sure, two players namely Degen and Dossena have been confirmed of their signing. The Gareth Barry saga has been on for the past two months and it seems to be coming to an end. Not something that I would have hoped for but it is not bad. David Silva and David Villa have also been linked and both have so far shown great talent when playing for Spain in the Euro 2008.
David Bentley and Stewart Downing have also been linked closely with Liverpool. Now the only thing troubling Rafa may just be insufficient funds of the club. But with all the rumours flying around, a few players going out of Liverpool are of course Crouch and Alonso. Rafa wants to sell them and between them, Liverpool might be able to get a hefty sum. Ultimately if Rafa gets his number of targets in, Liverpool looks strong and promising in the challenge for the EPL title next season. Torres, who stunned the Premier League viewers last season, will also be there to lead Liverpool.
But everything is in the early stages and we should not jump to conclusions just yet. The transfer market is going to throw loads of surprises so we will just have to wait and see. And maybe another two weeks, when everything is done and tidied up, I may just sum up who may win the EPL again next season.
P.S.: I'm a Liverpool fan! And just so everyone knows, the above article are just rumours and I do not take any responsibility for its validity; so do not come looking for me if the transfers do not occur. |
