Fresh Faces of Cempaka
Have You Spotted Them?
by AMANDA CHOONG and GRACE CHENG TSIAO-LIN, Form 4 Science 1 andCHU TZE WEI, Form 4 Science 2

A new year always brings with it new students in Sri Cempaka and this year is no different. So, the task of interviewing these new students fell into the volunteering hands of Grace Cheng, Amanda Choong and Chu Tze Wei. Little did we know what we were in for! If you, dear readers, have spotted us running after new students after school at the link bridge, be not alarmed. We were merely carrying out our task – a task in which our purpose is to bring to you, the loyal readers of our newsletter, the opinions and backgrounds of the new faces you have been seeing around school. We can personally vouch for the newcomers that they are very friendly people and do not bite. Please don’t hesitate to befriend them. In fact, get to know them more and here are a few remarks that they have mentioned about their new school:

Kimberly Chiam, of Form 1 Aer, finds Sri Cempaka a very interesting school as it is quite different from her old school Sri Bestari. She is very happy about the food here for she finds it very delicious, although the price range is a little higher than what she was used to. She has already been quite taken by some of her teachers, finding them kind, yet stern. She enjoys the company of our fellow Cempakans whom she thinks are friendly. However, she thinks that the prefects are a bit strict.

Jazelle Tan, of Form 1 Aer, finds Cempaka a very nice school. She is used to the environment and has settled very well in the school. Nevertheless, she still prefers her old school Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina (SJKC) Taman Rashna. She finds the rules not overly strict and the teachers warm and excellent in what they do. However, she finds the prefects far too stern for her liking. Sadly, this cannot be changed, no matter how many people complain of it.

Nikki Tan binti Danial Tan, also of Form 1 Aer, already has a lot of new friends. She, too, has quickly settled in. Nikki likes the new MacBook One-to-One Programme very much. She was from Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina (SJKC) La Salle. For this year’s Games Carnival, she plans to support her house, Harimau, by joining badminton, table tennis and cheerleading. We are expecting great things from her in the hope that she will overshadow her brother, who is a student in Form 4 Science 3 and a friend of ours!

Idris, a former student of Taman Tun is in Form 1 Aer. He is one of the few who still prefer the old method of writing everything down onto plain old paper rather than type using a shiny new MacBook. He finds everyone here genial as a rule and the teachers very understanding, good, and of course, again, friendly. He enjoys playing football and tennis, much to the joy of Tze Wei, our fellow interviewer.

Chin Kuok Liang, of Form 4 Commerce, was previously in Wesley Methodist. He, too, finds Cempaka sporting a different environment, mainly because of the obvious presence of the latest technology all around our school. He is placed in the Beruang house, much to the delight of Amanda, our fellow interviewer. Kuok Liang thinks that the school rules are not as stringent as he had thought it would be, and the prefects, although annoying sometimes, are bearable. Most importantly, he finds everyone here in Cempaka sociable, especially us, the honoured interviewers. He likes to play football which will most likely make him fit in well with all the other boys of Sri Cempaka. Somebody should tell him about the daily football sessions in the field after school.

Jeffery Chung, also of Form 4 Commerce, is fated to be with the ‘Harimaus’. He was previously in the Hartamas School, which is not very far from Cempaka. Jeffery finds the canteen food very tasty though slightly pricey. He finds the teachers very dedicated to their job based on his first impressions. In his opinion, many of the students bear lovely personalities with incredibly approachable demeanours. Football is his favoured pastime. Evidently, it is for most boys, full stop!

So there you have it, the new students of Cempaka Damansara (well, not all of them). What we can conclude from the above interviews is that:

They think all of us are friendly.
Most of them find the prefects strict.
Cempaka seems to be a much better choice compared to their previous schools.
They all complimented their interviewers!
The canteen food is a bit overpriced.

Now do not judge them; we know most of you reading this probably think the same thing. They say great minds think alike, so you’ve probably just found some new friends in these students.

P.S.: No new students were harmed in the making of this interview. We promise.
