Every year, the Prefects' Board organize a Prefects' Camp to test the probates’ mental and physical strengths. The camp this year was held for one night and two days at Cempaka Cheras Campus. Topics for the first day were mainly on workshops, discussions and activities. On the second day, there was an examination on what was taught on the first day.
On the first day, at 8 in the morning, probates and senior prefects gathered in front of the North Hall and discussed the timetable for the day. Students were then divided equally into six groups and assigned a group leader.
The first workshop was a talk on 'Being A Prefect' by our vice-chairman, Dr Rizal. All the probates listened intently to what Dr Rizal said. The second workshop was about 'Getting Things Done'. This was to educate the probates on performing a task with a sense of urgency instead of doing it at their own pace. The third workshop was held in the canteen after a 45-minutes break. In this workshop, probates and prefects discussed common scenarios that could happen such as students fighting, misbehaving, or even attempting to perform juvenile acts. These scenarios were acted out by the group members. This workshop was organized to help probates to overcome their fear of speaking in public. After that, prefects as well as probates discussed their views on difficult situations that could possibly be faced by the probates.
The probates and prefects were then assigned to their rooms with the boys in the voice studio and the girls in the dance studio. Then, the fourth workshop took place back in the North Hall. This time, Dr Rizal spoke about Basic First Aid and also cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Here's an informative tip for fellow readers; when someone has sprained his or her ankle, one should apply the RICE method that is Rest (the ankle), (put) Ice, Compression and Elevate (the ankle). Discussion of the school rules also took place. After this workshop, the prefects and probates headed back to their rooms and showered. Then, dinner was served in the canteen. The prefects and probates talked and bonded with each other.
However, the worst was yet to come. After dinner, prefects and probates participated in the games organized by the Form 5 senior prefects. The games involved running around the whole school and figuring out riddles. These activities were important for the probates as it tested their patience and stamina. This ended at around midnight. Then, it was lights out for the exhausted probates and prefects.
The next morning at around 8, probates and prefects gathered again to discuss the timetable for the day. The probates were then dismissed and sent to the canteen whereas the prefects stayed back for allocation of duty. All the probates were revising the notes they had taken down the day before. They were very nervous and tired at the same time. Examinations were held at different venues – canteen, hall and even across the swimming pool. The respective group leaders took the probates to their allocated venues.
Later senior prefects gave the examination results and discussed with the probates on their good points as well as bad points. There was also a top ten ranking. Congratulations to Yeoh Hsu Yin and Kaylyn Chandran for being the top two probates for this year’s Prefects' Camp. Keep up the good work. All the best to the probates! |
