Prize-Giving Ceremony 2008
By JOANNA SANGEETHA VIJAYKUMAR, Form 2 Terra

Cempaka Damansara’s Annual Prize-Giving ceremony was held on 16 July 2008. This year’s ceremony was more memorable than usual as it is the 25th anniversary of the school. The ceremony started out with the procession of all the prizewinners and prefects walking in with lighted candles, led by Head Prefect Aemilia Teoh and her assistant Stephanie Seow. Once all the prizewinners and prefects took their seat, the Masters of Ceremonies (MCs), Sher May, Samanta, Kai Shern and Alexis, welcomed all the parents and the Guest of Honour, Datin Freida.

Both Datin Freida and Dr Rizal were called on stage to give away the prizes. This year, a new award was awarded to students who have either been in the top tenth percentile for three years, or received a gold or silver award, or did extraordinarily well in an international examination. This was Academic Colours, of which the recipients received a certificate and a collar pin for their excellence in the academic arena. Among the other prizes awarded were the perennial Top Tenth Percentile of each form for the year 2007, Special Achievement in the Ujian Penilaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) and Penilaian Menengah Rendah (PMR) examinations, the Cempaka Awards Scheme Bronze and Silver medallists and School Colours.

After all the prizes were given out and photographs taken, Datin Freida invited all parents to partake in light refreshments. It had been a wonderful event that would undoubtedly encourage students to continue their hard work, be it academically or in terms of co-curricular activities, in hopes of being there again next year. Congratulations to all prizewinners!
