The ring was referred to by many as the most valuable artefact ever found since the beginning of time. Found within a whale’s stomach and studded with hundreds of tiny diamonds, it was a real beauty to whomever that set their eyes on it. The greed in men thrived on it uncontrollably. Attempts to steal the ring remained unfruitful by even the most cunning of thieves until “he” had stolen it. This was truly the biggest theft in history of mankind. Great skill and precision was required and miraculously, he had remained shrouded in the shadows, where he could never be discovered.
The waves hammered against the walls of Venice as the sharp pain of cold ignited throughout his nervous system. He was deep in thought as little ideas were circling a certain theme in his head. The ring had brought back painful recollections of his unfortunate past as his family was killed in an attempt to steal the ring. Vengeance had crept into his soul like how viruses devoured their prey. Little by little but in the end, everything was gone, his father, mother, sister and brother. He desired to have the great pride of possessing the ring, not only for his family who he had treasured dearly but also for the people who failed to steal it.
A sharp smell of newly painted walls flooded the library. Book after book, he read till his eyes became sore. Little was known about the mysterious powers the ring possessed but he was determined to find out. Many said it was able to channel superhuman abilities to the wearer of the ring. Two weeks later, everything was perfectly planned; he was going to strike exactly at 2300 hours when Edward, the billionaire owner of it, left his house for a midnight drink.
He shivered as the cold winds of winter blustered against his pale face. Phase one was almost complete; now he had to sneak into his house. This was easy as he was small-sized so he could creep in between the larger cracks in Edward’s garden wall. Edward’s Mercedes Benz was impressive to look at as it left the compound of his gigantic villa. Edward in his half-drunk state disgusted the young thief as he slipped past the golden gates. The villa had high security, no doubt, but the guards were oblivious to his perfect camouflage. He had crept into the villa via the open windows and there it laid, the ring, right in the middle of the exceptionally big hall.
Sealed in an almost impenetrable glass case and surrounded by lasers that could slice through human flesh easily, stealing the ring would be a huge feat. Four minutes had passed; he had three minutes to get the ring, five to escape. The room was swarmed with CCTVs and other security measures. He had to reach the main control centre and shut down the main electric current. He managed to do so without being detected but now, trailed by two self-activated robots, he grabbed the glass case containing the ring and felt a sudden surge of pride as he smashed through the windows and escaped, sounding all the alarms. He disappeared, without a trace.
“That was amazing!” he said to himself as he dodged past the helicopters and police cars. Now, he was safe in his own haven. The ring was there, glowing strangely, but his eyes gleamed with enthusiasm as he smashed the glass case. He was rewarded for all his efforts by being the first person to steal the ring. |
