Games Carnival Day 5
BY MITHRRA KULADEVA, Form 3 Cempaka

It was a day to remember. It was the last day that we (from Damansara campus) got to spend at the Cheras campus as part of the Games Carnival. Sports houses took every opportunity to regain their positions in the First House Cup. Although not technically the last day of the Games Carnival, this day was just as significant.

The day started with students assembling at Cempaka Avenue to take attendance. Then, house captains made announcements calling for meetings to let students know the order of events for the day.

First, students involved in girls’ basketball adjourned to the South Hall. This was the first official trial run of girls’ basketball in the games carnival. According to some players, it wasn’t such a challenge as it was very alike to netball. However, some found it quite arduous. Following the briefing by the basketball coaches, an interesting game unfolded. Helang beat Seladang with a surprising score of 24:0. Then Harimau went against Beruang and managed to win. In the finals, the dominating Helang ruled the roost and emerged champion. Seladang and Beruang attained the third and fourth positions respectively.

After that game, students adjourned to the canteen where noshes and nibbles were sold. Some even came to the Cempaka Corporate Board’s (CCB) booth located between the swimming pool changing rooms where fellow CCB members sold packet drinks and passion fruit juice.

As all this was going on, table tennis was being held in the International Block. The games began with Seladang boys going against Helang followed by Beruang against Harimau. Helang were victorious in their match. Nonetheless, Seladang's spirit was pumped back up when they won the girls table tennis.

Next was water polo! The most anticipated game of the day. Somehow the weather changed and it was hotter than ever when the match started. Despite the heat, students weren’t deterred in their aim of cheering on their fellow house members to victory. It was a shocking blow when Helang managed to garner enough points to win girls water polo. On the other hand, emotions ran high when Helang boys played against Seladang for the third and last spot. The game was so close. Helang won by a mere point. However, it was Harimau that managed to win the top spot for water polo boys.

Simultaneously, Beruang faced off Helang in the field for rugby, and what a spectacular match that was with Beruang nearly always having the ball in their possession. Later, Harimau played against Seladang. Although spirits were running low due to the players being tired from having to run continuously back and forth across the field, Fan Club members made sure that the enthusiasm level of the players were maintained. Notwithstanding having to deal with so much, Beruang victoriously emerged easy champions.

In conclusion, the fifth day of the Games Carnival was truly one for the books; a day full of emotion and happy memories. We left Cheras campus that day proud sportsmen and sportswomen glorious of our achievements, leaving nothing but victory behind.
