The Barclays Premier League At A Glance
In Mid Season
By Kanendra Kumar, Form 4 Science 1

We are halfway through the BPL now and we have never had a premier league this exciting in a long time. Chelsea is ahead while Arsenal and Manchester United are trailing behind. Everything here is the same as the years before except for one thing. Where is Liverpool? Real Madrid can be blamed for the downfall of the two red clubs, Manchester United and Liverpool. After the stunning purchase of Cristiano Ronaldo at the price of £80 million and the purchase of Liverpool’s defending midfielder Xabi Alonso could have been the reason for the clubs’ downfall.

At a glance, lets review the performance of the elite four and some teams which have shocked us throughout the season so far and what could happen to them in the near future.

Chelsea under their new manager Carlo Ancelloti has so far been performing with flying colours after having beaten all the other teams from the elite four which consist of Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool. They are currently holding the best home record of 9 wins and 0 losses. Nevertheless, can they keep this form now that the African Nations Cup is on the way as they are without some of their key players which includes, Didier Drogba and Michael Essien.

Arsenal had a good start to the season with the thumping 6-1 victory over Everton. Unfortunately, luck turned on them when they lost striker, Robin van Persie who got injured in an international friendly. Although they lost one of their top strikers they are still the team that has scored the most amount of goals in the league so far. With one game in hand can they take over Manchester United in second place?

One of the disappointments in this season so far has been the performance of Manchester United. They are trying to find the right person to fit the place of Cristiano Ronaldo but have failed to do so. When Ronlaldo was there they could have at least confirmed a victory against some of the weaker teams but now we are not even sure if they can beat anyone. Old Trafford used to be such an intimidating place but now even a team like Leeds can manage to outrun the Red Devils in their home ground. Could this be the end of their winning steak of the BPLs or can they catch up and shake Chelsea of the top.

A huge embarrassment so far has been Liverpool. This is what happens when your whole team relies on only two players in a squad of eleven. After Torres and Gerard had gotten their injuries, Liverpool is just a normal team anyone could beat. A big mistake in my opinion is that Rafa Benitez keeps fielding Lucas Leiva who is incapable of holding the midfield or helping the attackers. Well Liverpool fans pray hard and hope for a miracle because if Liverpool keeps playing like this they are never going to see any silver.

Some of the new boys have been showing performance in the BPL as well such as Birmingham who are currently in eight place. For a newly promoted team the team has been performing.

One team that is a disgrace in my eyes is Manchester ‘Big Money Bucks’ City. They can buy a team of high class world class players and still not win any silver. Well that was under Mark Hughes. Now that Mark Hughes has gotten the boot and Roberto Mancini has been hired there will be a difference.

After losing manager Harry Redknap to the Hotspurs, the team has been deteriorating non stop and no sign of improvement is ahead by the way they are going. If they keep this up they might find themselves in Division 1 in the 10/11 season. Like it is said football is the beautiful game because every second makes a difference and an impact. Keep watching beacuse anything can happen.
