Inter-House Quiz 2005

"Apu Nahasapeemapetilon!"

Yes, that was definitely the defining moment of the Inter-house Quiz 2005. After all, how often do we get to see Kai Sheng abandon all dignity to jump up and yell the (rather obscure) eight-syllable last name of Apu of the Simpsons to win his team an additional five points?

His five points contributed to Rumah Seladang's landslide victory of 59 points in the Inter-House Quiz 2005, which served as the first leg of the House Cup 2006. The semi-finals, held on the 13th of October 2005, saw Rumah Seladang heading off Rumah Beruang, and Rumah Helang competing against Rumah Harimau. The competitors were presented with a challenging melange of questions covering entertainment, sports, science, history, Malaysiana and Miss Tan's car number plate. Many correct responses and lucky guesses later, Rumah Seladang and Rumah Helang emerged as the winners of their respective rounds.

The four houses rose to a new challenge at the end of each round of the semi-finals of the Inter-House Quiz; each attempting a Sudoku puzzle set to earn the winners five additional points for their respective houses. Rumah Seladang claimed the first puzzle at a blistering pace; taking less than 3 minutes before excited Seladang members bounded onto the stage with the answer in hand.

The finals of the Inter-House Quiz were held in much the same manner as the semi-finals, this time with Rumah Seladang opposing Rumah Helang, and Rumah Beruang matched off with Rumah Harimau. After the six rounds of questions and the Sudoku competition (solved by Rumah Helang), the four houses stood thus: Rumah Seladang, Rumah Helang, Rumah Harimau and Rumah Beruang.

All in all, the Inter-House Quiz 2005 proved to be an extremely exciting event and an excellent way to start off the race for the coveted First House Cup. And, if nothing else, it showed that it really does pay to watch lots and lots of television.
