'A Little
Romance'. Ah, as lovely as its title, lovely is the movie - touching,
tickling, mesmerising, charming, heart-warming and beautiful.
This is a 1979 production, I know, I know, a little too ancient for the
twenty-first century movie viewers? But hey, really, hear me out, this
is movie is just.. lovely... It is also known as Je t'aime (I Love You)
in France.
This endearing movie spins a tale about two thirteen year olds, an upper
class American girl, Lauren King (played by Diane Lane), and a French
boy, Daniel Michon (played by Thelonious Bernard), who fall innocently
in love. However, as doting mothers always do, Lauren's mother finds out
about their romance and tries to put a stop to it by sending Lauren back
to the States.
Devastated, Lauren, who is totally smitten with Daniel, plans to elope
to Venice with only one thing on her mind: her romantic rendezvous - in
a gondola, gently rowing under the Bridge of Sighs, where she will share
her first kiss with Daniel, when the bells of Campanile toll, as the sun
dips below the horizon, bursting into brilliant hues of orange, red and
yellow. According to Venetian legend, should this happen, they will love
each other, forever.
With the help of Julius (played by the late Sir Laurence Olivier), they
embark on their journey, traipsing across Paris, Verona and Venice. Clearly,
the parents of both kids are in the dark about their children's flee and
soon, an international search is underway.
Set in the impeccable sites of France and Italy, this movie is deluged
with picturesque scenery and George Delerue's Oscar-winning score.
This movie is an epitome of first love which just puts a smile onto your
face and makes your heart go warm and fuzzy. At the same time, it has
some poignant scenes which just leaves you misty-eyed. I cried when I
watched it, okay! *blush* But it's such a lovely movie; I bet you would
be left tear-streaked, too! : )
An enchanting, light-hearted love story which brings tears, smiles and
laughter. Watch the movie, and let your heart melt in it ...
