Why
aren't you studying? With
exams just around the corner, last minute study tips might just be the thing
we need. At least for those of us who haven't started studying. So, if you
are the type who 'crams' everything in one night, these tips may prove to
be useful. Who knows?
Tip 1
Have someone quiz you.
It's undeniable that most of us hate studying, especially studying Alone.
Having someone around to quiz us, preferably a friend, definitely makes
studying much more fun. We probably are able to relate with our friends
better than with some pot-bellied, wide-eyed instructor (not that any of
our teachers are). Asking each other questions, while cracking jokes at
the same time, helps us remember things way better. We should be able to
connect the jokes with facts we're supposed to memorise. Clearly this is
a very effective way of studying. It may not be THAT much help, though,
if it really is the night before your exam.
Tip 2
Make your subjects fun.
Sounds dumb, corny and weird, but it does help. You could change topics
into songs or poems. In the examination hall, just repeat the song or poem
and there you have it. All your facts. (just don't sing too loud... people
might complain) How about funny acronyms? Sometimes, the less sense the
word makes, the easier it is to remember! Or perhaps original phrases? Make
up a phrase of your own. You could of course memorise the phrase your teacher
gave you. Isn't it easier though to remember something you came up with
on your own?
Tip 3
Maintain a positive attitude.
You've got to tell yourself that you can do it. Ignore all the doubts and
don't let it interfere with your studying. It's a bit too late to feel guilty.
Make the best of all the time you have. Anticipating possible exam questions
may be helpful. However, it is not encourages as you may not be lucky enough
to spot the right questions. Go over your textbook top to bottom, reading
the most general and important facts first. After you're done with that,
then you can start on the little details you missed out as long as time
permits you to.
Tip 4
Don't take too short naps.
If your eyes are feeling tired, and nothing else has worked, just take a
nap. (This is only if your eyes can barely open and you're confident you
have enough time to study later or if you feel you're ready.) Instead of
sleeping for only fifteen minutes each time, you should sleep for at least
2 hours. That way, you'll feel more refreshed when you wake up. Of course
you will have to set your alarm if you're going to wake up later to study
again. Make sure you have a back up alarm though. You never know whether
you'll switch off the first or even sleep through the first alarm.
If it really is the eve of your exam, the best thing
you can do is.
STOP STALLING!
You shouldn't even be reading this article if it is the before your exam.
You should. Close this window, press the start button, and finally, click
Shut Down. After that, you are advised to go straight you your room. Open
your book, and Start studying. You will definitely feel better studying
for six hours from 8 p.m. to 2 p.m. than studying for 4 hours from 11
p.m. to 3 a.m. If you're sure you won't be able to stay up throughout
the night, get a cup of cold water and maybe some biscuits. Whenever you
feel sleepy, take a gulp of water or a bite of your biscuit. If that doesn't
help and you're desperate, you could always shower in freezing cold water
whenever you feel sleepy. It helps. Really! Conclusion
Try to avoid 'cramming'. It doesn't really help much as you won't be able
to remember most of the things the minute the exam is over. When the next
exam comes, you'll have to cram all over again. Why go through all that
trouble when you can just study in advance? As much as I feel like a pot
calling the kettle black, I know that last minute studying is not the
most effective way of studying. So, after this exam, be sure to tell yourself,
'I will study in advance for the next exam.' |
